Steve Jobs. Michele Obama. Cassius. Brutus.

Today's Goal: Learn how to concisely summarize a text using a rhetorical precis and Steve Job's Commencement Speech "How to Live Before You Die" (2005).

The Plan:

Read!
Using the text you made a copy of yesterday and put in your drive, compile a rhetorical precis in your English Journal. A powerpoint is below to help you walk through each part of the rhetorical precis.
I haven't decided what we're doing after that. We have a couple choices. I'll decide when we get there.

Your only homework is to work on your essay revision if you are choosing to do that. Have a wonderful weekend!

Gradebook Explained

My grade book is on School Loop for you to view. There are some things you need to know that will hopefully clarify some things.

I = Incomplete, and may not be made up. An I is worth 30% of the total points available for an assignment. This is a department criteria and policy.

M = Missing, and should be made up or turned in for at least partial credit. The assignment is worth a zero until the work is completed.

Ab = Absent, and should be made up or turned in in a timely manner. The assignment is worth a zero until the work is completed.

Blank scores mean I have not graded it yet.

Zeroes occur when students do not turn in assignments that they are expected to submit. Regardless of when it is due, students are expected to complete the assignment.

Sometimes a score given on a minor assignment is not ideal. For students willing to put in the work, they are welcome to talk with me about redoing certain assignments.
